Business plan for a digital media centre servicing fixed line and wireless telco’s across Europe

Columbia Ventures Corporation own a wide range of companies engaged in digital (ICT) industries. This portfolio includes Thus Networks and Demon Internet and the major trans–Atlantic trunk cable, Hibernia-Atlantic. In Dublin the company operates Magnet Networks a business providing integrated home digital services, including VoD, DTV and Broadband internet access.

CVC has retained Crucible Media (the consultant) to deliver a plan to develop the existing assets of the business to provide high value added services to a new, wider customer base across Europe and the US. This includes the following: the creation of a European/Global digital asset management centre in Dublin building on the existing facilities and pipes; the identification and sourcing of major Content IP owners in the USA and Europe/Asia, who require distribution, packaging and management of their content across multiple platforms; the identification and sourcing of B2B and B2C platform owners and service providers who require these content packages.

Crucible is conducting the project in a series of modules, the first of which consisted of a ten week review of the marketplace and opportunities existing across the content industry and emerging digital platforms throughout Europe. It included a set of recommendations as to what the new business should look like and the next steps which should be taken to realising this. The report found that the value of its business would be radically enhanced if a client base of rich media IP owners can be established, as well as a base of local service providers, such as ISP’s, cable operators, telco’s, broadcasters, mobile operators and consumer brands, who have a demand for this content.

The report also includes an overview of the service design and implementation requirements.

Module 2, which involves sourcing investment partners, is now underway.
